Cells from your cervix, which is the lower, thin end of your uterus that is at the top of your vagina, are collected for a Pap smear. You have a better chance of being cured if cervical cancer is found early thanks to a Pap smear. A Pap smear can also identify alterations in your cervical cells that point to the potential emergence of cancer. Although it shouldn't hurt, a Pap smear may feel unpleasant. Afterward, you might bleed slightly, but you shouldn't have any discomfort or cramps. If the discomfort persists for more than a few minutes or if the bleeding continues for more than 24 hours, inform your healthcare physician. Results of an abnormal Pap test: A test result that is abnormal may also be referred to as a positive test result. Cervix cells can differ in appearance from normal cells in some ways. A negative test result does not necessarily indicate malignancy. Your doctor may advise observation, more testing, or medical intervention.05-May-2023
