A dilation and curettage is a minor surgical procedure to remove tissue from the uterus. A Gynae performs this surgery at the surgical center. This is usually an outpatient procedure, so you can go home the same day. Cervical dilation: Your provider dilates, or opens, your cervix. Your cervix is the opening to your uterus where it meets the top of your vagina. Your cervix normally only dilates during labor. Curette: The provider uses this thin instrument to scrape the uterine wall and remove tissue.
